Having brought Christmas cheer to tens of thousands of kids across Auckland since 1991, Tim Bray Theatre Company is overjoyed to be celebrating the festive season once again by bringing back audience favourite The Santa Claus Show ‘22, from 3 – 23 December at The PumpHouse Theatre.
As Aotearoa’s longest running professional children’s theatre company, Tim Bray Theatre Company continues to enchant audiences of all ages each year in this ultimate celebration of Christmas. Come experience this heart-warming tale about finding the true meaning of Christmas, sprinkled with comedy and a big dollop of the season’s magic.
Join Kelly and Alana on their adventure of jolly proportions, through the North Pole, meeting Santa’s chief elf and the big, merry man himself. Spread the season’s cheer with this feel-good tale for all to delight in.
After an absence of three years this early Christmas gift, which has become a highlight in Tāmaki Makaurau’s festive events calendar, returns for its 18th incarnation. Tim Bray QSM wrote the show in 1991 and dedicated it and named two characters in the play for his then 4 and 6-year-old nieces Alana and Kelly. Now, as adults, Alana and Kelly bring their children to the show and Tim has had the pleasure of sharing it with countless children since and is delighted to see its return.
“The global pandemic has certainly impacted family Christmas celebrations and our work as a theatre company. We know that ‘The Santa Claus Show’ is an annual treat for many of our audience members who attend every year and so we are thrilled to finally be able to bring this gorgeous touchstone of the season back to the stage after three long years.” says Tim Bray QSM, playwright and director.
“It’s worth simply reiterating how entertaining and worthwhile this show is for all ages – some parents were as vocal as the kiddies!…another terrific holiday event from the master and his team.” – Nik Smythe, Theatreview (2016)
This cast of joyous characters is performed by a cast of Tim Bray alumni including Christian George as Santa, Isabella Kerridge-Temm as Kelly, Carolyn Lamonde as Alana/Toy, Dylan Underwood returning to the role of Elfie for the third time, as well as Rebecca Ansell and Awatea Timothy, and his debut with the company, Jared Morello. Sharing the stage with Santa will be four young students from TBTC’s Youth Theatre to round out this merry production.
Access and inclusion continue to be central to Tim Bray Theatre Company’s annual programme. This season of The Santa Claus Show ‘22 will include accessible performances to ensure everyone can get into the jolly fun no matter what their access requirements are. Accessible performances include NZSL-interpreted performances, Audio Described performances with touch tours and sensory relaxed performances.
“This slick and stylish show is guaranteed to get you in the mood for Christmas.” – Heidi North, Theatreview (2017)
This beloved show is the perfect chance to get into the Christmas spirit with the whole whānau!
