Despite the weather, spirits were high today as Auckland got to celebrate Christmas once more as the Farmers Santa Parade made its joyous return.

This year’s Parade was proudly led by Olympian Dame Lisa Carrington as Grand Marshal, sharing her love of Christmas with the crowds of families that lined the streets.

For many, Parade day marks the start of the festive season, and this year’s Farmers Santa Parade did not disappoint, as spectators were treated to music, performances and family favourites such as Disney’s Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Santa Bears and of course Santa himself closing out another unforgettable procession on his Kiwi Christmas themed float.

Classic favourites were also joined by a few special new editions to the parade, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Stuart the Minion, a Shrek inflatable, Unicorn Princess Float and Mars Explora Float. The Farmers Santa Parade also saw local communities and performers take to the city streets, including Te Vaerua O Te Rangi Dance Group and Fijian dancers.

After the Santa Parade was cancelled last year, we’ve been thrilled to have the privilege to bring back this treasured event for Auckland families to celebrate and get into the Christmas spirit” – Michael Barnett, The Auckland Children’s Christmas Parade Trust Chairman

The Farmers Santa Parade has been a much-loved experience for Auckland whānau for generations. Now in its 89th year, each year thousands of passionate volunteers work tirelessly to bring the parade to life, including performers, make-up artists, choreographers, sound engineers, safety officers, drivers, and designers.

Tamariki at Starship who weren’t able to attend the Parade itself didn’t miss out, as they got an extra special visit from Santa himself on the morning of Parade day. Santa visited the wards, giving out gifts from Farmers and lots of Christmas cheer.

After the Parade the fun didn’t stop, as thousands continued to enjoy the festivities in Aotea Square at Santa’s Party. With hosts Jono and Ben from The Hits, the lively crowd got to enjoy performances from the likes of Peppa Pig, Jazz Thornton, Flip N Fly, and Empire Studios Dance and Suzy Cato Choir, and even caught a final glimpse of the big man in red before he flew off on his sleigh.
