COMEDY FEST’S LIVE COMEDY DEBATE IS BACK - MODERATED BY KANOA LLOYD
New Zealand Comedy Trust and Lane Neave present
THE GREAT COMEDY DEBATE
Two teams of the country's best comics will go head to head in the name of love at The Great Comedy Debate presented by national law firm, Lane Neave. Armed with their comedic genius, impeccable wit, and intellectual nous, six comedians will take to Rangatira, Q Theatre on 17 August to battle it out.
Kanoa Lloyd will lead the night as moderator. Best known as host on Three’s The Project, Kanoa will be wrangling the comedians as they take on the mighty topic of love. Joining her are comedy superstars Hayley Sproull, Angella Dravid, Dai Henwood and David Correos.
After a sell-out inaugural debate in 2021 led by Te Radar, this popular format is back for another round. Following on from last year’s theme of ‘Technology will save us’, audiences can be prepared for good points and dirty tactics, hot takes and wild yarns, and a fight to the debatable death over this year’s moot: 'Love Will Save Us’.
Going from strength to strength, Hayley Sproull is the host of ZM’s Breakfast show, Have You Been Paying Attention? and The Great Kiwi Bakeoff, and star of Golden Boy. Winner of season 1 of Taskmaster NZ, Angella Dravid is a Billy T award winner and regular panellist on 7 Days. Fellow Billy T winner and Taskmaster season 2 contestant David Correos will also bring his energetic and unique brand of comedy. Dai Henwood has been making Aotearoa laugh for more than 20 years as a comedian and TV presenter, with his most recent gig as the LEGO Masters NZ host.
With their comedy prowess and smarts on the line, the audience will decide who’s right on the night in this fast, factual (ish), slice of funny business. The two remaining comedians making up the opposing teams will be announced soon.
Once again presented by the New Zealand Comedy Trust and Lane Neave, this year’s Great Comedy Debate will be filmed for Discovery’s Three to give the whole country a chance to get in on the action.
