BACH MUSICA NZ ANNOUNCE SUPERB 2023 PROGRAMME
Bach Musica NZ announce four captivating concerts at the Auckland Town Hall for their outstanding 2023 programme, showcasing the combined orchestra and choir at their finest. The year-long programme will present a smorgasbord of classical delights commencing on Sunday 2 April.
The first concert on 2 April sees one of New Zealand’s top musical organisations perform Bach’s most famous piece of sacred music, his dramatic St John Passion, highly regarded as a major pillar of Western culture. Truly music for the soul, this concert will see Bach Musica NZ’s highly skilled Music Director Rita Paczian at the helm as conductor, alongside exceptional soprano Alexandra Francis, alto Kate Spence, tenor Andrew Grenon performing the role of Evangelist, tenor Sid Chand, internationally acclaimed bass James Ioelu and bass Samuel McKeever performing the role of Christ.
“True to our tradition, we are excited to present famous Bach masterpieces alongside two NZ premieres and classics like the Rodrigo Guitar Concerto; Music for the Soul, all uninterrupted by Covid regulations.” says Music Director, Rita Paczian.
The 2023 programme showcasing the mastery of Bach Musica NZ, continues in June with the world premiere of Kaí Pothío, Kaí Máomai by young award-winning New Zealand composer Oliver Bramah, alongside Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez and Poulenc’s Gloria. In September, Bach Musica NZ will present another New Zealand premiere with Schumann’s Requiem, op 148, as well as Johann Baptist Vanhal’s Bassoon Concerto in C Major, and Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony No 8. December will host the final concert of 2023 and see Bach Musica NZ flourish in Christmas spirit with Bach’s majestic and colourful Christmas Oratorio (Parts I-III).

Alongside another year of remarkable concerts, Bach Musica NZ’s Workshop programme continues, providing music lovers of all skill levels a chance to learn from the very best. In 2023, they commence with a Conducting Workshop on 4th March, followed by Singing Workshops on 20th May and 28th October, all held at Somervell Presbyterian Church.
