THE VENUES MAY BE SMALL BUT THE COMEDY IS MASSIVE
Some of the country’s best comedy talent is set to hit the Wellington region with Saturday Laughs in Carterton on 19 March and Friday Laughs at Fringe Bar in Wellington on 1 April. Both nights offer a delightful line-up of the country's funniest, in a massive two-hour showcase that will have one hundred people laughing like a thousand.
Saturday Laughs will be MC’d by the Fred Award Winner Chris Parker hosting a line-up of stellar comedians, including his cousin 2022 Billy T nominee Gabby Anderson, proving that comedy is indeed a genetic trait. Gabby’s many talents include MC, teacher and of course comedian and Chris is certain to beat anyone stranded on a desert island.
Joining the cuzzies is award-winning Lesa Macleod-Whiting, who is doing her first ever full length show in the 2022 NZ International Comedy Festival. In contrast to Greg Ellis who performed in the very first Comedy Festival back in the nineties. Greg is performing with Steven Youngblood in their hilarious improv duo Dads on the Town. The line-up also features Featherston local and all round super dad Chris Rust.
The comedy then heads to Wellington central with Friday Laughs hosted by Wellington’s funniest Texan Aaron Barber. The diverse showcase of comic talent features winner of Best Newcomer at the 2020 Comedy Hub Awards Kajun Brooking (Ngati Porou), Indian born Sowmya Hiremath and Irish born Richard Dowling. Storming the 2021 Wellington Raw Comedy Quest is winner Cook Island Māori comedian Orin Ruaine Prattley, and close rival (lol) and runner up Emma Draper (Nga Wairiki, Ngati Apa) completes the line-up.
