THIS SPRING, AUCKLAND FRINGE INVITES YOU INTO A WORLD WHERE ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

Shows L-R: Māori Krishna, The Vegetable Plot, Whangārei Gospel Choir, Altarnative

After a year’s hiatus the festival that showcases the gloriously experimental and wildly innovative arts persona of Tāmaki is back, just in time to usher in Spring. Featuring 56 acts across 14 performance spaces it’s time to celebrate with all of the wacky, political, funny and uber-artistic artists that will come together from September 1 – 22, for Auckland Fringe.

This year’s programme is bursting with different genres and teeming with some clever, inspired and downright silly concepts. From burlesque to street dance, documentary theatre to comedy, and spoken word to music, this festival has it all. There’s even a magic show, a rain machine, and a human-sized fly.

There will be no escaping Auckland Fringe! It’s going to be everywhere. Fringe-staple theatre venues back on board for some fringe goodness include Basement Theatre, The Factory Theatre, TAPAC, MoveSpace, Covert Theatre, Pitt St Theatre, and Garnet Station. The festival is also branching out to include performances at The Rose Centre, The Classic, Dolphin Theatre, Titirangi RSA, Ahu Bar and Auckland Old Folks Association.

With the support of Auckland Live, Britomart, Auckland Council, and the City Centre Targeted Rate Auckland Fringe is stoked to unveil its first-ever community outreach kaupapa, ĀHURU MŌWAI! This new kaupapa will bring an array of free multi-disciplinary performances activating in treasured community locations across the city centre.

At the Auckland Town Hall Concert Chamber people can experience the melodic sounds of the Whangārei Gospel Choir, inspiring readings read by the cast of NZ Refugee TV show Miles From Nowhere, AND formidable comedy line-ups including the incomparable talents of Angella Dravid, Bailey Poching, Kura Turuwhenua, Courtney Dawson, Janaye Henry, Jamaine Ross, Heta Dawson, Joel McCarthy and more!

The City Central Library will host award-winning Australian children's entertainers, The Vegetable Plot, and The Strand Arcade will be home to several emerging multi-national storytellers. The Ellen Melville Centre showcases the Auckland Northshore Rockquest finalists Red Fever and Jesse Scott, comedy from the Femmes and Them Megashow, and wāhine empowerment workshops from Mana Wāhine, Mana Tipua. To top it off, there will be some amazing musical lunchtime vibes in Tautaki Square - Britomart, aiming to encourage our wider Tāmaki community to get amongst it!

Auckland Fringe encourages people to throw caution to the wind, embrace a little chaos, and experience cutting-edge live performance from some of our most ambitious makers. To keep on top of programme updates head to www.aucklandfringe.co.nz
