NZTRIO’S 2022 LEGACY SERIES CONTINUES WITH AN EPIC JOURNEY OF MUSICAL BRILLIANCE
NZTrio presents
LEGACY 2
After a commanding start to their celebratory 20th year, NZTrio return this July with Legacy 2. Join the outstandingly talented Ashley Brown (cello), Amalia Hall (violin), and Somi Kim (piano) as they take you on an moving musical journey, which will captivate audiences in Warkworth (3 July), Auckland Town Hall Concert Chamber (20 July), and Manurewa (23 July).
To continue to grow NZTrio’s extensive back catalogue of commissioned works, the second concert in their 2022 programme features a brand new commission from beloved composer Tabea Squire: based on a quirky poem by Christian Morgenstern (1871-1914), “Der Tanz” describes an unlikely dance between “a four quarter pig and an upbeat owl”.
Listen as the story continues with the luscious trio arrangement of Schumann's melodious miniatures dedicated to his music teacher Friedrich Wieck, before we return home to the sounds of Aotearoa in Squire's newest work. Bolcom's trio celebrates the music of our time in a whirlwind journey, turbulent with autumnal and Hispanic-jazzy tones contrasted with other-worldly serenity. Finally, we experience Schubert at the height of his artistry in his marvellous E-flat trio, acclaimed by Schumann as 'an angry meteor blazing forth and outshining everything in the musical atmosphere of the time'. Brace yourselves for this epic musical panorama – the whole gamut of human emotion is conveyed in just four movements.
Livestreamed on www.nztrio.com and also www.facebook.com/NZTrio thanks to JXLive and Radio NZ Concert, everyone at home and abroad can enjoy this programme on 20 July, with the performance footage available to view online for a further two weeks.
Continuing a busy year of performances, NZTrio will perform the Beethoven and Gareth Farr triple concertos alongside Nelson Symphony Orchestra on 25 June in The Rule of 3; then they present Toru Whā at Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland Museum on 27 June, joined by renowned taonga puoro master, Horomona Horo. NZTrio will also be performing with the magnificent Nadia Reid in Dunedin, Wellington and Christchurch in July.
NZTrio’s Legacy series will continue in November with further mesmerising concerts, continuing to cement their place as one of Aotearoa’s most distinguished classical ensembles.
