THE BIGGEST NIGHT OF COMEDY GETS EVEN BIGGER

The New Zealand Comedy Trust & Best Foods present
Best Foods Comedy Gala
Hosted by Rhys Mathewson

More big names have just been added to the Best Foods Comedy Gala, Aotearoa’s most prestigious night of comedy. Jam-packed with the best in the biz, the legendary names on the Best Foods Comedy Gala line-up are sure to have audiences laughing the night away on Friday 9 September at The Civic in Auckland and then again on Friday 30 September at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington.

Joining this already world-class line-up of top tier comedians is television and radio host, actor and all-round comedy superstar Hayley Sproull. Best known as host of The Great Kiwi Bake Off and Have You Been Paying Attention?, she's also host of ZM’s Breakfast show, starred in  Golden Boy and Funny Girls, and regularly appears on 7 Days Hayley quickly became a Comedy Festival regular after winning Best Newcomer in 2012.

Easily one of New Zealand’s most prolific local comics - Guy Williams - joins the line-up with his famous deadpan Kiwi humour that’s given rise to his career in television after earning him the prestigious Billy T Award in 2012. Guy was a contestant on the first season of Taskmaster NZ, and is known for his antics as co-host on Jono and Ben, presenting on The Edge radio station and his popular TV show and podcast New Zealand Today.

In Auckland, our favourite Kiwi South African Urzila Carlson joins the line-up with her signature bold and relatable humour that’s quickly becoming beloved the world over. With a Netflix special, countless TV appearances (Taskmaster NZ, Have You Been Paying Attention?, The Masked Singer Australia) and sold-out shows both at home and across the ditch, Urzila is easily one of the biggest names in comedy right now. Joining her in Tāmaki Makaurau is multi-award winning writer, MC and comic Nick Rado, who was recently the first Kiwi comedian to record a comedy album in NZ and have it launched across America on Sirius XM, it even reached number 4 on Apple Music. Nick has opened for some of the world’s biggest comedians and has written for hundreds of 7 Days episodes he’s in popular demand!

Wellington audiences will be treated to comedy-pop-duo sensation Two Hearts (Laura Daniel and Joseph Moore), bringing their iconic pop bangers to the Michael Fowler Centre - they’ll have you humming their tunes for days! They’ve been nominated for the Billy T Award separately and as a duo, and were keeping audiences laughing through lockdown with their Twitch Karaoke extravaganzas. Alongside them is 2021 Billy T Award winner Brynley Stent. Brynley has fast become one of TV’s golden treasures, gracing our screens on Celebrity Treasure Island, Taskmaster and Golden Boy, not to mention as a regular on 7 Days and Have You Been Paying Attention?.

These comedy all-stars join the already announced stellar line-up, with Gala host Rhys Mathewson, Samoan comedy superstar Tofiga Fepulea'i, the legendary Justine Smith, comedic genius Kura Forrester, Fred award winner Eli Matthewson and the inimitable Pax Assadi - plus a guest appearance from Chris Parker in Auckland!

The Auckland Best Foods Comedy Gala is being filmed exclusively for THREE.
Proceeds from this event will support the New Zealand Comedy Trust, who support the local comedy industry through development initiatives and producing the NZ International Comedy Festival.
